Hatha yoga — the foundation
Hatha yoga is the parent of virtually all modern physical yoga styles. A Hatha class is typically slower-paced, holding poses longer, with more focus on alignment, breath awareness, and the specific health effects of each posture. The most appropriate style for beginners and people with health conditions.
Vinyasa yoga — flow and movement
Vinyasa refers to linking movement with breath. In a Vinyasa class, poses flow from one to the next in continuous breath-synchronised movement. The pace is faster, more cardiovascular. Excellent for building strength and stamina.
Ashtanga yoga — the traditional series
Ashtanga is a specific system involving a set sequence of poses practiced in a specific order, with Ujjayi breathing and bandhas maintained throughout. Physically demanding and requires significant prior practice. Not appropriate for beginners without significant modification.
What Navyoga teaches and why
Navyoga is rooted in the Hatha tradition as taught in the Sri Sri Yoga lineage — with complete attention to alignment, health benefits, pranayama, and meditation. Our sequences are progressive and varied daily, drawing from multiple classical styles.
